Therefore, this qualitative research is aimed to discover the English language teaching strategies applied for very young Muslim learnersâ at Kiddos English School (KES) Kindergarten, Banda Aceh. The research participants were selected by using non-probability sampling method. Furthermore, semi-structured interview towards four English teachers and participant observation was conducted in two classes of KES. The result of this study showed that KES teachers implemented at least seven strategies to teach English for their students from engaging learners in daily oral language activity, to establishing a nurturing environment, playing games, storytelling, audio-visual, singing, and teaching face to face. Furthermore, the teachers faced four constraints in applying those strategies, which are: studentsâ misbehavior, inconsistency of studentsâ attendance, lack of parental involvement, and insufficient number of teacher.

| 2758 | #95 | ETHICAL VISION OF THE QURâAN (Interpreting Concept of the Qurâanic Sociology in Developing Religious Harmony) |
Ridwan, MK Robikah, Siti |
This paper aims to provide a perspective of sociology of the Qurâan in the development of religious harmony. This thought was motivated by a phenomenon in which Islam appears with a hardened face. The syndrome of Islamic populism shows an Islamic conservative turn and tends to prioritize formal and normative values in practise. This model is wholly vulnerable causing conflicts both intra and inter-religious. Its exclusive, binary, and aggressive style make Islam inhospitable to the plurality of groups, religions, and cultures. This model of Islam needs to be returned to its face which is inclusive, ecumenical and accommodating to diversity based on the values of the Qur'an. So this agenda requires reformulation of Islamic doctrines that have been considered established. In conclusion, this study argues that although the Qur'an supports the agenda of mission activities, it compulsively requires a dialogic-communicative process. Thus, the Qur'an's greatest contribution to the development of harmonization of diverse people lies in its inclusive and accommodating character to diversity. The principles developed by the Qurâan can be covered through various approaches, both sociological and theological. Sociologically, the Qur'an encourages humanity to jointly declare universal values in every religious activity. These values become the basis of the necessity of each religious community to be willing and able to create a space of togetherness and dialogue to formulate humanitarian agendas. Theologically, the Qurâan does not erase pre-Islamic religions implying that the Qurâan supports diversity and commands humans to always compete in the framework of goodness (religion).

This phenomenon has conduced widespread public anxiety. Various de-radicalization efforts have been carried out, but have not shown results as expected. In this framework, the offer of a de-radicalization strategy is important to be implemented. Nurcholish Madjid has a serious attention to the issue of both Islamic radicalism and de-radicalization. In case radical Islamic communities are not given adequate attention, the future of Indonesia as a pluralistic nation is threatened because it does not provide a conducive sphere for the development of various kinds of diversity.

Safitri, Lis Manshur, Fadlil Munawwar Thoyyar, Husni |
Indonesian Muslims need a well-established Islamic education that can accommodate diversity as the characteristic of Indonesia. Nurcholish Madjid (1939-2005), a neo-Modernist, has an inclusive and philosophical Islamic thought that can be used as the philosophical paradigm of Indonesian Islamic education. This study intends to interpret the thinking of Nurcholish Madjid related to Islamic education using Hans Georg Gadamerâs hermeneutic model. This study shows that knowledge is a manifestation of âaql, one of human potential as khalÄ«fah. Cak Nurâs objective of Islamic education is divided into four categories that led to the awareness of human existence as Godâs servant and khalÄ«fah. The model of Cak Nurâs education is humanistic education which focuses on moral education. The multicultural education of Cak Nur, which comes from the generic meaning of Islam, is tolerance education to the diversity of religions, religious understanding, and the acceptance of local wisdom. Cak Nur's educational thinking is not a practical theory, but a philosophical foundation that is easily accepted by people with the epistemology of burhÄnÄ« thought.

| 2761 | #95 | THE CONVERSION OF NAHDLATUL ULAMAâS (NU) AFFILIATED PEOPLE TO MAJELISTAFSIR AL-QURâAN (MTA): A CASE STUDY FROM TRADITIONAL TO PURITAN ISLAM | Maimun, Achmad |
Religion is a principle that has been taught since the early age. Therefore, religion is difficult to change and even contributes to form oneâs soul. However, it does not mean that oneâs religious understanding or religion cannot change. Religious change, which is often synonymous with religious conversion, can be considered as the transfer of maĆŒab (schools) or religious beliefs, such as from Nahdlatul âUlama (NU) to Majelis Tafsir Al-Qurâan (MTA). To explain that phenomenon, this study is conducted based on three main issues: the process of conversion from NU to MTA, the basis of its rationality, and further implications. Those issues are examined using qualitative research method, applying phenomenological approach. The following results are the researchâs findings: changes on understanding from NU to MTA are often caused by oneâs psychological factors, while its complementer is caused by social factors. The process of the changes does not happen suddenly, but gradually with the basis of rationality. There are seven phases of the conversion from NU to MTA, namely curiosity and crisis, quest, encounter, interaction, commitment, consequences, and deployable agent. Meanwhile, its basis of rationality consists of clarity and certainty of the basis of Islam, obedience to Al-Qurâan and al-HadiáčĄ, and egalitarianism. The phenomenon of conversion may result in counterproductive effects, such as verbal violence towards the perpetrator and social exclusion. Thus, to avoid conflict, one of the important things to do is to give tasamuh education to the moslem community so that they are willing to accept differences wisely.

| 2766 | #95 | THE DISCOURSE OF RADICALISM AND FAMILY ROLES IN STANDING AGAINST RADICALISM REPRESENTED IN GARIN'S NUGROHO FILM "MATA TERTUTUP" | Rahayu, Mundi |
Terrorism has been a serious problem for humanity. At least there were five terror incidents hitting Indonesia since May 8, 2018, killing at least 19 people, and 60 injured. On May 13, 2018 three suicide bombings at three churches in Surabaya, carried out by a family of six (father, mother, and four children) headed by Dita Oeprianto. Due to the serious impact of the terrorism, there is a question of why and how people involved as suicide bombers. Responding to this question, and as the counter-radicalism strategy, Garin Nugroho directed a film entitled âMata Tertutupâ (The Blindfold- 2011). The film is based on the research by Maarif Institute. This paper discusses âMata Tertutupâ through the questions of how the film represents the discourse of radicalism and family roles in standing against radicalism. This question addresses mainly the issue of radical groupâs recruitment process, and the roles of family in countering the radicalism, constructed in the film. The study shows that radicalism is represented through the recruitment process of NII which is done through a pattern of kidnapping and brainwashing. This process radicalizes young people and to the worst, produces suicide bombers. The discourse of radicalism issue also addresses the crucial roles family in saving young people from radical groups.

This paper elucidates and analyses one of the Muslim intellectual heritage in Indonesia which is phenomenal and cosmopolitan, what is called Islam Nusantara (Islam of the Archipelago). When reading the history of the arrival of Islam in Archipelago, most of the scholars studying Archipelago Islam agreed that Islamization of this area was conducted in a peaceful way. They assimilated and complemented each other to become what is called âcitizen of the worldâ. Derridas called this as a model of universal hospitality or guiding principle to protect people from wars. As a religion of peace, Islam is cosmopolitan. This is proved by the fact that Islam is a religion which includes races and nations. This feature is marked by Nine saints (Walisanga) as Javanese unique agents in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, taking interactionist approach between Islam and local culture. This in turn creates Indonesian Islamic civilization which is called today âIslam Nusantaraâ, Islam without such obstacles as culture, religion, and nation, Islam with a peaceful face that respects humanity and emphasizes tolerance and empathy to human beings.
